Set up by three USW alumni, S2S (Student to Student) has developed a revolutionary approach to student support software.
Having tested and developed its product at the University, S2S provides a solution for university student support departments which allows students to interact with support services through an app on their mobile devices. Extensive desk research and focus groups found that lack of awareness and the stigma attached to seeking help are common barriers that prevent many students from engaging with support services at university.
Co-founder Mat Brace said:
“I can relate to this situation myself. Since I have dyslexia, I often could have benefited from the academic support available at USW. Something was needed to help break down the barriers – encouraging students to take the first step in addressing any concern, whether it be academic or social.
“Even though there is a wealth of support services at the University, S2S allows students to decide when, where, and how they interact with those services.”
USW Exchange helped the business by investing in the initial prototype that would form the basis of the technology. In addition, it has enabled S2S to link to organisations for further support, including Business Wales, where the business secured a business mentor.
S2S hope to expand to further HE institutions across the UK and further afield over the next few years.
